In the year 1313 our forefather, William Rule saved the life of King Robert the Bruce by turning an angry bull the king had wounded while hunting. For that act his name was changed to Turn-e-bull and in that act it was demonstrated to the nation of Scotland and through that nation to the world that choice not chance determines destiny. Robert the Bruce made a nation of the cland and began the process of modern democracy, mass education, and inductive reasoning that has shaped the world as we know it today.
June 2009 is finished today and I am glad. The month began with my entering another decade of life. That was not so bad though it was as we used to say in the sixties “heavy man, heavy.”
Things quickly went downhill from there when Ross, my favorite uncle, died. OK, so he was the only uncle I had left but he was still my favorite. The drive to Alabama was long but good. My parents went with Betty and me so we enjoyed talking. Our time with the extended family was special. I did notice that everyone else seems to have gotten older and the kids now have children of their own. What’s with that?
For the cost of two hours listening to someone tell us unsuccessfully why we should purchase a time share in New York City we enjoyed an almost free anniversary visit to the Big Apple. We didn't take a camera so the images are only iPhone quality but the memories are picture perfect.
